Our concept is to create a site based on the idea of the 5 minute flash and the short attention span of the internet user. Our individual vlogs will each be focused on a particular element of comedy and designed to be entertaining but ultimately pointless. They will not feature any particular opinion or view but will be focused on low brow, dry humour.

Our content portal will be designed to allow for the videos to be quickly accessed and will encourage the user to view videos from different creators, to ensure they experience a range of comedic styles.

-- So my style shall be horrifically drawn out videos with no end
and to be as pretentious and dry as possible about it.

Project Changes

My original concept for Pollution Watch was to be a completely formal approach to Pollution Prevention in Wellington. This is why the WPW site was made to look very similar to alot of Gorvernment websites out there in New Zealand.

My blogs seem to reflect a more informal approach, so I feel that my website has taken a more relaxed approach to Pollution watch, and moved from being active, to being a passive informant on issues, Pollution related, in Wellington. This is because of the use of up beat music and the way I filmed alot of the footage without tripod or stabilization.

Update Pro2

I have not started to film my footage, but I have designed an advertisement and a footer to accompany my footage through the periodic updates, that help keep the video in line with the website.

My idea is to ask people in different areas of Wellington what the think of pollution in the area. Questions include, what in the area gets on your nerves? Do you find Noise Pollution to be a problem? Do you feel there is too much litter on the streets? etc.

Forums & RSS Feeds

Forgot to mention, as well as the Google Map API I have added multiple RSS feeds from different angles throughout the greater Wellington region. Including information from the Greater Wellington Regional Council, the Wellington City Council, and a few blogs from members of the public on environment issues.

As well as this I have added a forum to discuss Light, Air, and Noise pollution throughout Wellington where users can post where they feel areas are being most disturbed from this. The forums has been split into three sections and you must Register and Login to do this.

Google Map API

I have successfully added a google map function to my site. Although you cannot post tags onto it as of yet, I want to have that as a function in the near future.

Joomla Success

I have created my Joomla website by the name of Wellington Pollution Watch. I am currently editing the template, and have added the Greater Wellingtons Regional Council RSS Feed. Now I have to find a way to embed a Google maps like interface into the site.

Project 2 - Channel U

For this project I am going to experiment with the idea of an Environmental Satire with User Generated content. The reason I want to continue with this idea is because of New Zealand's environmentally friendly outlook on life. I want to twist this around and question whether or not this is really the case, and display it through user-generated content.

I want to create a site that will involve a Google map of Wellington, that people will be able to list what they think is the most polluted areas of Wellington, and what areas to avoid. I could show Air, Light, and just general Rubbish pollution.

The reading was rather difficult to take in, but because my idea is looking at how the truth can be turned around and changed, I felt that the section number 9 applied mostly to my idea:

'In a world that really has been turned on its head, truth is a moment of falsehood'

Because I want to turn the idea of Wellington being clean and green around, I thought this relates to my idea. It may change the way people look at truth.

Finished Project 1

Overall I'm quite happy with the way it turned out, although the whole movie is boxed in I think the aesthetics of this works with the portrayal of the 'women in white'. I have created an eery, dream like movie that shows the woman in a slightly different viewpoint.

Issues of ownership over the vast magnitude of media on the internet is again brought into play in this article.

Project 1 Concept

For Project 1 I want to look at emphasizing the fact that the footage is more sinister than what we are first led to believe from watching it.

I have been experimenting with different filters and colour contrasts to create and eery feeling, and have found that using the motion tracking creates a disorientating effect which emphasizes a feeling that something is not right. So I have been experimenting with different motion tracking paths. Once I get to class I'll upload some footage of what my ideas are.

I have also been playing around with filters, and although they can look tacky, I have found using the 'Glow' effect in AfterEffects creates a sinisterly serene feel to the footage.

First.

This year I would like to explore using websites to convey media in a unique way, although I don't really know how to achieve this as of yet I'm sure it'll all become clear soon!
